Notes:
Overview

This event is NOT a training course. It is an Assessment Centre that takes place over three days, starting at lunchtime on Day 1 and finishing at lunchtime on Day 3.

Course Objectives

The APM Practitioner Assessment Centre will enable individuals to show that they can effectively manage a non-complex project across the whole of its lifecycle.

Who will the course benefit?

The APM Practitioner Assessment is particularly appropriate for individuals who are currently acting as Junior Project Managers, Project Co-ordinators, or as Project Team Leaders in larger projects.
The event is also suitable for more experienced project staff wishing to achieve recognition of their practical skills.

Course Content

Written Work
Candidates will provide written answers in examination conditions to questions based upon a case study scenario and will also provide a written answer to a question about an issue in project management.

Group Work (observed)
Candidates will undertake group exercises in order to discuss and solve problems related to the case study.

Interviews
All candidates will be interviewed on an individual basis.

Assessments
Candidates are assessed against 30 defined criteria using an APM approved rating scale. Throughout the event, Assessors are required to capture “a quantity of quality evidence” of the candidate’s capability against each criterion.
Candidates will be allowed to refer to the APM Body of Knowledge throughout the assessment but not during the written work.

Prerequisites

Candidates will have 3-5 years experience in a responsible leadership role in a non-complex environment or will have been a team member of a more complex project.
Furthermore, because the assessment process relies on candidates having a good foundation level of project management knowledge, candidates are required to satisfy one of the following criteria:

They must
1. Have passed the APMP qualification
Or
2. Be able to demonstrate a high level of familiarity with the APM BoK and have passed an equivalent qualification (e.g. PMP?, ISEB Certificate in Project Management or OU Project Management Module M865)
Or
3. Be able to demonstrate that they have a good foundation knowledge of project management supported by evidence of relevant CPD

Candidates should be at least be an Associate Member of the APM or be in the process of registering as a member
Examinations

This qualification has been rated at ‘level C’ by the International Project Management Association (IPMA)
.
Additional Notes

The final pass/fail decision will be made by the APM after reviewing documented evidence of the Assessors’ recommendation as well as reports and feedback from the event Facilitator.

Prices includes APM registration fees and a copy of the APM Body of Knowledge.
