Notes:

Overview

Managing Successful Programmes is the OGC best practice framework for defining and implementing change programmes.

The role of the OGC in driving improved performance within the public sector through Gateway reviews is raising awareness and demand for this accreditation across all areas of the public and sectors and within organisations serving it.

Programme management is a framework, which focuses on delivering business benefits through delivery of new capabilities from project and the transition of business operations to adapt to the new capabilities and deliver the business benefits.

The course follows the syllabus laid down by the Office of Government Commerce and is based on the manual released in June 2003. Delegates sit the Foundation, Intermediate and Practitioner level examinations during the course.

Designed For:

This accredited course is suitable for any organisation or individual seeing the need for a controlled approach to managing programmes. The course is also suitable for Programme Directors or Senior Responsible Owners, Programme Managers, experienced project managers moving into programme management, programme support managers and senior managers from any discipline with involvement in programmes. Project Managers seeking higher responsibility within their organisations will benefit from understanding the strategic view taken by MSP. The event should not, however, be viewed as “advanced project management” as the two disciplines are quite different in their approach.

Approach

The course is a mixture of input and practical sessions. A Pre-event preparation pack will be sent to everyone attending this event. The course is built around the APM Group syllabus and all the materials are formally accredited by the APM Group. A specially written case study, issued by the APM Group is used on this course.

A depth of knowledge of this case study is a pre-requisite for getting the most value from the course and for success in the MSP Practitioner examinations.

Practical sessions will be on an individual and team basis focusing on the Foundation examination (Thursday afternoon) and the Intermediate and Practitioner examinations on the morning of the final day.

The consolidation and Practitioner exam preparation day on Thursday enables exam candidates to review parts of the Method with the Event Manager and practice written answers.
