The Business case for a PRINCE2 Training Course
PRINCE2 is the structured project management method that has become the UK’s standard for organising, managing and controlling projects.

It is a generic, best-practice approach for managing of all types of projects. Widely used in both public and private sectors, its reputation as a highly effective, process-based approach to structuring and organising project delivery has now spread to countries across Europe

The widespread use of PRINCE2 owes much to the fact that it is an easily tailored and scaleable method that can be applied to all types of projects. Each process is defined with its key inputs and outputs, together with the specific objectives to be achieved and activities to be carried out.

The PRINCE2 method describes how a project should be divided into manageable stages enabling efficient control of resources and regular progress monitoring throughout the project. The various roles and responsibilities for managing a project are fully identified and are adaptable to suit the size and complexity of the project, and the skills of the organisation.

Over the last 12 months more than 40,000 people have taken either the PRINCE2 Foundation or Practitioner Examinations. Currently around 800 people take one or other of these exams every week
There are now more than 320 Approved Trainers working with over 60 Accredited Training Organisations in the UK and a further 30 overseas. All training accreditation, registration and examination processes are provided by the APM Group Ltd. APM Group itself is accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Scheme (UKAS) and is one of the very few organisations approved by UKAS for the accreditation of “knowledge based workers”.

The schemes supporting PRINCE2, the project management method, developed by The OGC (the Office of Government Commerce) has gained recognition by UKAS through the award of accreditation to APM Group Limited (APMG) as the PRINCE2 certification body fulfilling the requirements of EN 45011 and EN 45013. This is the first time a qualification scheme aimed at Project Management Professionals has achieved this recognition.

The Benefits for Your Organisation

The benefits of using a structured project management methodology such as PRINCE2 cannot be overestimated.

Once a Project Manager understands how to structure a project, plan ahead correctly, obtain buy-in from all stakeholders, and once the senior management can successfully manage by exception, projects become more efficient with less time spent in unnecessary meetings and more time focusing on delivering to the customer’s expectations. Project Managers spend less time fire-fighting and more time planning in a calm, controlled manner.

Efficient yet firm controls are placed on the project, enabling senior management to delegate without worry. Risks arising from management of third-party suppliers are greatly reduced by building structured management and communication lines.

PRINCE2 is the most widely recognised project management methodology, and gives a company a common language, both internally and with external contacts.

Understanding that the method is designed to be tailored to the circumstances of the project is crucial to success, and this is something that cannot easily be comprehended without attending an accredited training course. An accredited trainer will effectively destroy the myth that PRINCE2 is “over-bureaucratic and too unwieldy for small projects”.
