The event covers the basic principles of a structured approach to project management as well as understanding the human factor behind project successes and failures.

Course Objectives
 
On completion of the course the delegate will be able to:

• Define Project Control
• Formulate a personal action plan to be actioned on future projects

The event is recommended for people new to Project Management or those who have experience of working on projects and would like to move into Project Management.

• Differences between projects and other management structures
• Concept of a project lifecycle and methodology

Module 3- Starting up the Project
 
• The importance of information gathering and communicating
• Tasks required to start up the project
• Defining the project goal, customers and deliverables
• The concept of cost/benefit analysis

Module 4  -Introduction to Project Initiation exercise
 
• The Project Initiation document
 
Module 5-  Risk Analysis
 
By the end of this module the participants will have:
• The concept of Risk Analysis
• Practising applying risk analysis to their project
 
Module 6 - Detailed Planning
 
• The concept of a Work Package
• Generating a Product Breakdown Structure
• Types of task dependency and will produce a network diagram
• Critical Path Analysis and calculating the critical path
• An introduction to PERT (Program Evaluation and Review Technique)
 
Module 7- Estimation Techniques
 
• Understanding the different varieties of estimates
• Using the different methods
 
Module 8- Resource Planning and Scheduling
 
• Scheduling resources on tasks
• The difference between schedule driven and resource driven tasks
• Using resource smoothing and levelling
 
Module 9- Project Costing
 
• Detailed resource requirements for the duration of the project
• Producing a project plan detailing the cost of the project
 
Module 10- Quality Planning
 
• Understanding the meaning of quality
• The primary areas of the project affected by quality issues
• Different quality methodologies
 
Module 11 -The Project Organisation
 
• The role and responsibilities of the Project Manager
• understand the issues of delegation of responsibility
• have been introduced to issues of team dynamics
• know Belbins categorisation of team roles
 
Module 12- Administration for Project Control

• The main components of project control
• Understanding the process steps to be followed
 
Module 13 -Project Reporting and Communication
 
• The use of Tolerance for monitoring projects

• The concept of Earned Value Analysis and how to use it
